Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)

An income-related benefit paid to working-age people on low income who are out of work and actively seeking work. Contribution-based Jobseeker’s Allowance is not means-tested but based on National Insurance contributions. Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance is means-tested, and is one of the benefits being replaced by Universal Credit.
