Your Housing Group has worked tirelessly over the past year to maximise their tenant’s income. They have completed over 100 calculations for council tax support and focused on supporting their tenants through the removal of the £20 uplift. The highlight for the team was successfully increasing a widower’s income by a huge total of £1,320 a year.
Your Housing Group’s good news story of 2021

Our team recently assisted an elderly gentleman, who had recently lost his wife.
He was only receiving his State Pension and was not in receipt of any other benefit.
We used the Better Off Calculator to assess his eligibility and uncovered he was eligible to receive Housing Benefit, Council Tax Support and Pension Credit. He went on to successfully apply for all of these additional benefits and saw his annual income increase by around £1,320.
His testimony speaks for himself when he said, ‘I really wouldn’t have had a clue without your help. I am really grateful for everything you have done for me and I am over the moon.’

This past year we have been struggling to manage our workload which has significantly increased since the removal of the £20 uplift to Universal Credit. We have also found it difficult to source fuel vouchers to support our residents with the rising cost of living.
We chose Policy in Practice’s Better Off Calculator because it is simple to use. It helps to speed up our processes and with it being easy to amend this helps our benefit advisors to revisit cases time and again, always looking to improve a person’s outcome.
The most notable success we have had using the calculator has been our ability to conduct quick council tax support calculations. Since having the calculator we have successfully completed over 100 calculations in council tax support alone, helping to strengthen the financial resilience of our residents.

I love how quick and easy to use the Policy and Practice calculator is. I like that you can amend the information and also see a breakdown of how the entitlement has been worked out. The visuals are clean and simple with no complicated jargon.
