What challenge(s) have you faced this past year?

Haringey have, like many councils been experiencing significant increases in costs and demand which has presented us with some challenges as regards finances and trying to balance these against providing services for our residents.

What led you to choose Policy in Practice's product to address your challenges?

In Haringey we have been working with Policy in Practice for around 10 years now and things continually evolve but I have found that they are always on top of the latest legislative policy and changes to the welfare system. The excellent relationship we have developed with Policy in Practice and the ongoing support has shown dividends in the outcomes we have been able to achieve for our residents.

What success have you had, or expect to have, as a result of using your Policy in Practice product?

Too many to mention but I guess a highlight for this year has been the promotion of the Better Off Calculator and the new functionality which has helped us to capture the impact of residents using self serve tools to identify unclaimed support.

Reflecting on your work and that of your colleagues, what has been your most notable success story from 2025? How has Policy in Practice contributed to this achievement?

This year, Haringey has shown what’s possible when technology and compassion come together. Using Policy in Practice’s LIFT platform and Better Off Calculator, the borough has transformed lives and delivered millions in financial support to residents who need it most.

From tackling fuel poverty to promoting Healthy Start, Attendance Allowance, and Pension Credit, Haringey has been at the forefront of multiple campaigns. But the real story lies in the impact.

Since 2023, three phases of targeted Pension Credit campaigns have reached over 3,000 older residents on low incomes, helping more than 800 households successfully claim Pension Credit. The result? A staggering £4.2 million in extra annual income and an estimated £50 million in lifetime benefits for Haringey residents.

This achievement has propelled Haringey to 7th place in London for Pension Credit uptake, according to DWP data – an incredible leap made possible by smart, data-led engagement through LIFT.

And the success doesn’t stop there.

In the past year alone, over 1,000 households have used Haringey’s Better Off Calculator, uncovering over £7 million in unclaimed support. These tools are empowering residents to take control of their finances and access the help they deserve.

Haringey’s story is proof that when councils harness data and technology to target support, the results are life-changing. It’s not just numbers – it’s security, dignity, and opportunity for thousands of people.
