The following report based on in-depth interviews with Leicesters troubled families find that state intervention can make life a lottery for troubled families.

  • State Intervention often undermines work and parenting.
  • Debt often results from materialism and short term perspectives on money, and life in general.
  • Troubled families live in an environment characterised by  ‘need’ and failure, ratehr than one that focuses on building on the strengths that may exist in many of these scenarios.
