Charitable Disregards under Universal Credit

| posted in: Welfare Reform | 1 Comments

Do we know yet if Charitable Disregards will be retained under Universal Credit?

Many of the charities make regular payments (eg weekly or monthly) to clients, both to those who are over retirement age and to those who are younger, but who may be too sick to work. These payments are disregarded as income under the current system.

  1. Hello Carolyn,

    Thanks for your post.

Universal Credit has a significantly higher ‘work allowance’ (earnings disregard) under the current system. This should mean that most charitable payments, particularly to out of work claimants, will not affect the Universal Credit payment.

I couldn’t find the details of how charitable payments will be counted under Universal Credit in the 2013 regulations, I looked very quickly though. You can look yourself here and leave a comment in the post.
